Why I'm Obsessed with Dry Brushing

I’m sure you’ve heard about dry brushing, but maybe you don’t have a full understanding of the range of benefits of adding it to your body care routine. Or maybe you haven’t heard of it and have just seen one lying around in someone else’s bathroom and wondered what they used the flat, stiff brush for considering they don't own a horse… Either way, I want to fill you in on why dry brushing is a game changer.

So, dry brushing? Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like – brushing your skin while it's dry. But it can really unveil your skin’s natural radiance and also has a range of other benefits. Here are just a few of the reasons why I'm obsessed with dry brushing:

  • Bye-Bye Dullness: Bid farewell to lacklustre skin! Dry brushing gently buffs away dead skin cells and unclogs pores. It's like hitting the reset button for your skin!
  • Boost Circulation, Boost Glow: Want that lit-from-within glow? Dry brushing gets your blood flowing, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells. You'll be radiating health and vitality in no time!
  • Lymphatic Drainage: Dry brushing stimulates your lymphatic system and leaves you with smoother, softer skin.

If you’re looking for a dry brushing routine to get started with, here’s what I suggest (there’s also great videos on YouTube about this):

Before you hit the shower, ensure your skin is dry and free from any lotions or oils. Then grab your dry brush!

Using gentle, upward strokes, start at your feet and work your way up your body, focusing on each body part for a few strokes. If you start to notice skin build up, that’s normal, don’t worry.

Rinse off any lingering dead skin cells in the shower, and revel in the refreshed sensation. For an extra boost, finish your shower with a quick blast of cool water to awaken your senses, improve circulation and increase endorphins (there’s actually a ton of benefits to ending your showers with a couple mins of cold water, but that’s for another blog post).

After drying off, treat your skin to a hydrating moisturizer or body oil to seal in the benefits of the dry brushing you did. Your skin will drink it up like a tall glass of water!

Add this to your regular body care routine to reap the benefits of improved circulation, unclogged pores and stimulating your lymphatic system.
